Our Association
Working Together
The Business Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (BANL)
was formed in 1983 by a small group of local entrepreneurs.
These
business people joined together for their mutual benefit and
support.
Facing Newfoundland and Labrador's harsh economic climate, it
was
felt that through networking the likelihood of profitability would
be
increased. Building from this belief, from a small group of six,
our
Association has grown steadily since the beginning.
The aims of our Association, both then and now, are clear
and
straight-forward: encourage business within and for our
membership
and promote sound business practices by our membership.
Through
the attainment of these aims, our Association is attempting
to
stimulate employment and the local economy.
A Fellowship; Not a Service Club
Each week the members of our Association gather for a luncheon
meeting.
The meetings allow our members the opportunity to exchange
knowledge
and ideas with other leaders in the business community. Further,
the
luncheon provides a welcome break from the rigors of the
workplace.
Regularly, our luncheons feature guest speakers from business,
government
and the community at large. Each member has the opportunity to
promote
their business with the other members of our Association through
a
luncheon meeting.
The Non-Competitive Advantage
Membership in our Association is open to any business in the
Province.
However, we maintain a strict policy of non-competitive amongst
our
membership. New members must be sponsored by an existing
member
and cannot be in direct competition with an existing member.
The Democratic Structure
